Sanctity of human life

We believe that all human life is made in God’s image and is valuable to God. In particular, we believe that advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable in our society, the preborn, is a vital and worthwhile task. We also recognize that abortion has affected many in our communities and that healing is found in Jesus alone.

Join College Church as we March for Life in Rockford on January 23!

College Church has participated in the Chicago March for Life for the last 3 years, joining thousands of people to take a public stand to affirm the value of every human life, born and unborn. Due to COVID-related challenges, in 2021 we will be joining an event in Rockford instead of Chicago.

Register here to ride the bus with us to Rockford where we will unite with others as a public witness for the value of every human life and to pray for the end of abortion.

Date: Saturday, January 23, 2021

Time: Arrive at College Church at 8 am and return by 2 pm

**Register here** to reserve your free seat(s) on the bus.  Masks will be required on the buses and we will be riding at half capacity.

If you prefer to drive down separately instead of riding the bus, the event is expected to start and end at the Rockford Federal Courthouse at 327 S. Church St. There are large public parking lots near that location. Please email sohl@college-church.org to let us know. That way we can exchange contact information to meet up, and make sure you have a group hat!

Ways to Get Involved

Sanctity of Human Life (SOHL) Task Force: The Sanctity of Human Life Task Force is a group of people at College Church committed to praying for men and women in our community who are considering, or have experienced, abortion as well as those directly involved in advocating for the unborn (individuals, pro-life organizations, authors, legislators), and educating and mobilizing our church to join in efforts to uphold and defend the value of human life. The SOHL Task Force typically meets at church one Sunday per month at 12:45 p.m. to pray, to exchange updates and information related to the sanctity of human life and to plan different ways to involve our church community in these efforts.

To join the SOHL meetings, or for more general information, contact sohl@college-church.org

Caring Network Ministry (formerly CareNet Dupage): Caring Network is a pregnancy center that has been providing support to women and men for more than 40 years. From professional guidance to resources and ultrasounds, Caring Network is a ministry that comes alongside individuals facing unplanned pregnancies and offers both free medical services and spiritual guidance. On top of this, they offer free confidential post-abortion care and support with Restore After Abortion. Caring Network is a ministry partner of College Church with whom we partner each year with the Coins for Caring Network baby bottle fundraiser in order to support the wide range of services that Caring Network provides to its clients. Additionally, we support Caring Network’s Connection program, connecting moms-to-be with local church small groups, and we would love for your small group to get involved.

For more information on Caring Network visit their website or email sohl@college-church.org

Peaceful Praying Outside Planned Parenthood: Planned Parenthood Aurora is the largest abortion facility in the Midwest where about 300-400 babies lose their lives each month. Waterleaf, a pregnancy resource center, is across the street.  Abortion industry workers report that when women see peaceful prayer outside an abortion facility, abortion appointment cancellations go up significantly. We will pray outside Planned Parenthood on Waterleaf's property for an hour monthly in cooperation with 40 Days for Life. There will be plenty of space for social distancing. Sarah Lindquist will guide this time of singing a few hymns and praying for the babies, clients, workers, our community and nation.

When: One Saturday/month, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm (upcoming date, February 6)
Where: Planned Parenthood, 3051 E New York St, Aurora, IL 60504
Parking: Please park in the AutoZone or Mariano’s parking lot.

March for Life: Each January, since 2017, College Church has attended March for Life Chicago. In 2020, there were 109 participants wearing matching hats celebrating and standing for life in downtown Chicago. See the hundreds of photos from the event here and a video with a bird's-eye perspective of the march here. The march received news coverage including WGN, ABC, CBS, Chicago Tribune, a second Chicago Tribune article, WBBM, Catholic Philly, Chicago Catholic, Illinois Review, Life News, Christian Post, CBN and Live Action. Even though we are taking our group to Rockford 2021, we hope to join the Chicago March for Life again in 2022. If you received a March for Life hat from College Church, please hold onto it for future years as the hats will continue to identify our group. Bring these to Rockford as well!

No matter what stage of life you're in, we can always continue to learn. Check out the resources below for more information.

We believe that prayer is an indispensable act of advocacy, and we invite you to commit to praying regularly for an end to abortion in the United States. Ask your neighbors, small group or adult community to pray with you for an end to abortion. If you'd like to pray with others who are specifically passionate about abortion, contact sohl@college-church.org

psalm 139:13-14

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
