Keenagers is the name that, for about 30 years, has defined seniors (55 and above) here at College Church. Keenagers includes people who serve in children’s ministries, music ministries, Adult Communities and church leadership and fellowship together as senior adults.
The group gathers for fellowship on Fridays between September and April. At 5:30 p.m., we gather for fellowship around the punch table and share a buffet dinner. The dinner blessing each evening is offered by a member of the pastoral staff, following an interview that tells us about himself, his family and his ministry in the church.
After each dinner hour, at 7 p.m., we enjoy a lively program ranging from the educational to the inspirational to the musical to just plain entertainment—all on the third Friday of the month between September and April.
The 2016-2017 schedule is as follows:
September 16—Jeff Mishur on Vermeer
Jeff Mishur presents the remarkable 17th Century Dutch painter Vermeer, who took painting to a new level with techniques that experts are still trying to figure out.
October 21—Redekopp and Edwards on Piano
Karin Redekopp Edwards, professor of music at Wheaton College, along with her husband, Mark Edwards, will present a program of classical piano favorites.
November 18—The Elizabethans Sing Madrigals
A chorus of local women in period costume return to take us back to the days of Shakespeare with a program of madrigals and carols to usher in the Christmas season.
January 20— Tim Botts Calligraphy
The widely-published calligrapher Timothy Botts presents a program demonstrating his art of rendering the scripture in calligraphy.
February 17— Mighty Windsor Radio Players
Always a popular favorite, the senior Radio Players, led by Dick Arnold, present another classic old-time radio show.
March 10—Leslie Goddard
Leslie Goddard has performed for us as Violet Jessup (Titanic survivor), Clara Barton, Bertha Palmer, and Amelia Earhart. Who will she be this time? That is yet to be decided, but we know the program will be excellent.
April 28—The Nussbaum Brothers Men’s Quartet
The Nussbaum brothers return to sing many of our favorite hymns.
